Last night I was changing Evalyn's nappy, and her umbilical cord stump had fallen off! Yay! We can give her a bath now!
The stump was still in her onesie and I had a moment of wondering what the hell I was meant to do with it. Through out the pregnancy and after the birth people have been assuming I am going to keep and archive some of the weirdest things, so I wasn't sure if this was one of those things that I'm supposed to stick in her baby book or have bronzed or something. We had loads of leaflets about cord blood banks before the birth, and I half wondered if there was a umbilical stump vault, but it seems unlikely.
In the end I decided to throw the stump away, because, well, it was kind of disgusting frankly - And because Edith is going through a phase of chewing things, particularly if it's something that belongs to the baby, and I had this horrible vision of chasing the stupid cat around the apartment as she ate the thing. Blergh.
Eva is totally fine by the way, she hasn't even noticed the absence of the stump. I don't think she'll miss it.
