Before Evalyn was born we put together little gift packages for our neighbours, and we tied those underneath the mailboxes in our hallway when we brought her home.
It's just a mini take-out style box with a couple of pairs of hot pink ear-plugs wrapped up in tissue paper. We attached postcards with a note saying that we had brought Eva home and that we hope Evalyn'll be a good neighbour, but she's a new-born... So, ear-plugs for all!
The cards were really hard to choose - but we went with postcards of a 50's cover of William March's The Bad Seed. The book is about a murderous little girl and the havoc she wreaks; the book is ok, but the film based on that book is a camp classic and well worth watching for the central performance of Patty McCormack as evil little Rhoda.
Yeah, we don't really do "sentimental" about our daughter.
