I am so disappointed and saddened that North Carolina's constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage or civil unions was voted in. The only slight shreds of good news in this are that the county I live in voted against it, and actually 40% of the state as a whole did as well.
Still, that 60% was ample to push the thing through, and be hateful for the sake of it, because it's not like gay marriage was legal in NC even before this amendment. This is just the nasty cherry on top, it makes me almost expect to hear about a resurgence in witch hunting at this point.
Of course, that was yesterday... Today I am very glad though that President Obama has FINALLY declared his support for same-sex marriage. That is a huge deal because he is the first US president to back gay marriage, and that support is a step in what I personally consider to be the right direction.
