There was an incredibly dramatic thunderstorm last night, which seemed to start the very moment my bedside light was turned off. The whole of the patch of sky we could see from our bedroom window would light up in a sheet, and there seemed to be a lot more lightening than thunder; not that that made it any easier to sleep through, because the light was quite startling. The cats were very unsettled, and couldn't decide if they wanted to be with us, or if a really good hiding place would be safer.
Eventually I fell asleep, so I don't know if the storm carried on all night but was just less impressive. I do know that it all really kicked off again at about 5:30, and that the cats were back on the bed by that time. I looked at the weather report app on my iPod, the next three days had the lightening icon, and the three days after that are all illustrated with the heavy rain icon. With that weather prediction in mind for the week, clearly this evening is the perfect time for us to notice an ominous and very loud creaking that seems to be coming from the roof.
