When a pair of your favourite jeans gets that bit too snug to ignore, it's time to face the fact that maybe you've been a little bit bad at keeping to your calorie burning. I'm trying to get into the habit of doing some exercise everyday, ideally alternating between cardio and pilates. Yesterday was cardio, so I put Zumba into the PS3 and tried to keep the instructor as green as possible. The way it works is you have a camera monitoring your movements, which is verified by the controller you strap to your hip in the special belt (yes, it looks ridiculous, and yes, the controller does fall out of the belt sometimes), you have to mirror the moves of the instructor avatar on-screen. The avatar starts off yellow with pink detailing, then as you move the colours change to indicate how accurately you are following the routine. If you keep her in the green spectrum then you get encouraging remarks and build up points, which then adds back-up dancers to the screen.
It's not easy to keep her in the green, but it is sort of addictive. At the end of the work-outI found myself really committing to the belly dancing portion of the cool down, because once you get into the stretching the movements are too subtle for the system to capture and I wanted to get a personal best high score.
Which I did! But then I felt dizzy and have to have a sit down and a glass of water, so now I'm thinking perhaps a handful of chocolate hobnobs isn't the best snack to have before a work out?
