Generally when there is a problem with the department's main copier it will turn out to be a paper jam in the part that gets really super hot. Normally this would be too mundane to note, but this was the only photo I took today and it did make multiple colleagues gasp and/or giggle, not to mention demand to know who had done such a thing.
This morning, as I arrived in the office, the department chair was on his way into the copy room because a faculty member had mentioned there was "something wrong" with the copier. That really is a beautifully turned understatement. As you can see what happened was when the machine was being topped up with toner, more of it ended up on the floor and in the delicate innards of the machine than actually in the toner reservoir.
I'm pleased to say that there was a happy ending though; copier services came to do triage and then sent in a specialist paramedic, so the patient lived and will copy another day.
