I'm getting resigned to American commercial breaks showing up every 15 seconds, but I still find the adverts themselves most odd. In particular the campaigns for both Charter (who by the way provide us with both our cable and internet, so I am extremely grateful to them for my sanity) and Carolina West are usually out of sync. It is so annoying, and once you've noticed it, you can't unnotice it again. I actually have to look away, or mute the TV when those particular commercials come on; which is ironic, especially since both of them are communication companies and for months now their television ad campaign have been making them look really bad. Even weirder are the sexual health or birth control products that are advertised at any hour of the day, and go into entirely too much detail in some cases.
When it isn't products being promoted, then it's television itself. Trailers are TERRIBLE over here, and they go on forever. This again has the opposite effect, because where the first time I see a trailer for something I might be interested by it's five hundredth repetition I'm either a) sick of the show without having seen an episode or b) surprised to find that it hasn't been on for months.
I hate to say it, but I'm not entirely sure that Americans really get the concept of marketing campaigns. Generally speaking the idea is to make people want whatever it is you're selling, where as what you are doing is more like aversion therapy. Different thing entirely.
