On Friday Doc and I went to the gym, to use the cardio room and weights. We'd forgotten they were closed because they were doing a blood drive or something, anyway we tried. That still counts right? I mean I changed into a sports bra and everything.
Anyway, to get to the changing rooms, you have to walk through the main indoor basketball court and the cheerleaders were rehearsing.
Of course I've seen "Bring It On", and other cinematic examples of cheerleading, but it's really quite impressive to see it in real life, because you know there are no stuntmen or safety wires involved. The Uni's cheerleaders are mixed, so there are a couple of beefy guys who effortlessly pick up the girls and hold them at arms length over their heads. We saw one girl being lifted like this, suddenly balance herself on one leg and bring her other leg straight up by her head. It was like she was doing yoga, except for being seven feet up in the air. There is no way I would ever agree to do that, I know I would hurt myself.
There was also a lot of human pyramid stuff, and girls being thrown through the air. I don't think we're likely to go to an actual game, although you never know, so I'm glad we did actually see a few of the cheerleading squads moves.
