The latest news on the visa situation is that the American Embassy in London will be processing the application, which hopefully will make things a bit quicker, but is still in no way a guarantee. This means it will be some time in August, at best, before we hear anything else. And I still have to give blood.
We also have looked into shipping our belongings transatlantically. Our gear is actually a surprisingly small amount, in international shipping terms at least. Apparently our stuff may well have to piggy back it's way to North Carolina with someone else's shipment, so it will be a really drawn out process just to get it en route. This worries me, as I tend to panic about whether our bags are going to transfer planes with us when we have to make connecting flights, this is even less under my control so the worry is proportionally more.
So essentially I'm preparing to put all of my personal property in boxes to send to a country that hasn't yet said they'll have me. Which is, of course, absolutely FINE and in no way stressfull.
